The Audiovisual Perception Test (2023), is an interactive audiovisual installation comprised of three components: visual (video), auditory (three available audio tracks), and reflective/introspective (survey, accessed by QR code).
Viewers are invited to select one (or more) of three available audio tracks playing through headphones, while watching the video work. Followed by the completion of a short survey on the viewing/listening experience. The work was inspired by liminal feelings in the gaps of processing and memory, and was made as an attempt to contemplate and better understand the complex perceptual relationship between sound and vision. This eight-minute experience is meant to immerse viewers in the phenomena of the inner monologue, while also thinking about the persistence of media and technology.
This work was a part of Bhullar's grad show, Dream Safely, and was the recipient of CAG prize.
Audio A -- featured audio that synced with the visual elements in the video and dialogue subtitles.
Audio B -- simulated a "silent" environment, having headphones with active noise cancelling paired with ear plugs.
Audio C -- was a sound collage titled "Dream Safely" that Bhullar created during their residency with Media Arts Committee.
